High-Altitude Connectivity: Nepal Telecom Rolls Out 4G in Upper Dolpa; Reaches 750 Local Levels
In a major boost to the country’s digital infrastructure, Nepal Telecom (NTC) has successfully launched its high-speed 4G service in Kagkot, the center of Chharka Tangsong Rural Municipality in the remote Dolpa district.
Nepal Telecom 4G Expands
With this historical expansion, the total number of local levels connected to Nepal Telecom’s 4G network has officially reached 750.
Breaking Boundaries at 4,200 Meters
This milestone marks the very first 4G site operationalized in the challenging terrains of Upper Dolpa. Overcoming extreme geographical constraints, the company installed state-of-the-art 4G equipment on an existing tower located at Mukot, situated at an astounding altitude of 4,200 meters above sea level. The service has been linked and powered through advanced microwave radio technology.
The Final Milestone: Only 3 Local Bodies Remaining
Out of the 753 local bodies in Nepal, NTC’s high-speed internet network covers almost the entire nation. The service is yet to reach only three remaining remote local levels:
-
Dolpo Buddha Rural Municipality (Dolpa)
-
Shey Phoksundo Rural Municipality (Dolpa)
-
Narpa Bhumi Rural Municipality (Manang)
Nepal Telecom has re-emphasized its commitment to connecting these remaining areas in the near future, ensuring that no citizen is left behind in the digital era.
Key Impact: High-speed internet at 4,200 meters directly translates to better administrative transparency, immediate security responses, and enhanced digital learning tools for remote schools.
Boosting Local Economy and Himalayan Tourism
The introduction of 4G networks in Upper Dolpa opens up a multitude of digital opportunities for both locals and travelers. The transformation will significantly benefit:
E-Governance & Security: Streamlining local administrative workflows, healthcare updates, and security communications across border and mountain terrains.
Education: Enabling students and educational institutions to access modern online learning resources.
Tourism & Trekking: Enhancing safety and communication channels for domestic and international trekkers exploring the pristine Himalayan trails of Dolpa.
As the “Nation’s Communication,” Nepal Telecom continues to fulfill its corporate responsibility by bridging the digital divide and deploying cutting-edge telecommunication services from urban centers to the country’s most isolated Himalayan pockets.
