Nepal’s Insurers Spend Over Rs. 12.55 Billion on Employee Benefits

Life and non-life insurance companies operating in Nepal increased their total expenditure on employee benefits during fiscal year 2025/26 (2082/83 BS).
Nepal’s Insurers Employee Benefits
Financial statements published for the fourth quarter show that 28 insurance providers spent a combined sum exceeding Rs 12.557 billion on staff benefits, representing a 3.45% growth compared to the prior fiscal year.
Life Insurance Sector Performance
The 14 life insurance companies spent a total of Rs 7.0029 billion on employee benefits in FY 2025/26, reflecting a 5.05% increase from Rs 6.6661 billion spent in FY 2024/25.
Himalayan Life Insurance recorded the highest benefit-related expenditure among life insurers at Rs 902.7 million. Nepal Life Insurance followed with Rs 839.8 million, while SuryaJyoti Life Insurance reported Rs 685.5 million.
Reliable Nepal Life Insurance posted the fastest annual growth in benefit spending, which surged by 34.47%. Conversely, six life insurance firms—including Nepal Life, MetLife, and Rastriya Jeevan Beema Company—recorded a year-on-year reduction in employee benefit costs.
Non-Life Insurance Sector Performance
The 14 non-life insurance companies allocated Rs 5.5541 billion toward employee benefits in FY 2025/26, marking a 1.49% rise from Rs 5.4726 billion in the previous fiscal year.
Siddhartha Premier Insurance posted the highest benefit expenditure in the non-life segment at Rs 686.4 million. Shikhar Insurance ranked second with Rs 623.1 million, followed by Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance (SALICO) at Rs 553.3 million.
Oriental Insurance registered the steepest surge in employee expenses, rising 71.59% year-on-year. On the other hand, seven non-life insurers—including National Insurance, Rastriya Beema Company, and United Ajod Insurance—reduced their total staff benefit spending relative to the previous year.
