The National Human Rights Commission of Nepal (NHRC) is thrilled to announce the “NHRC Nepal Short Film Competition 2024,” an exciting opportunity for creative individuals, filmmakers, and storytellers to contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights.

As we prepare to celebrate the 76th Human Rights Day on December 10th, 2024, we invite you to capture compelling human rights narratives that inform, inspire, and provoke thought.

Introduction to NHRC Nepal

Established in 2000, the National Human Rights Commission of Nepal is a constitutional body mandated to uphold human rights across the nation. With independence and authority derived from the constitution, NHRC Nepal actively addresses human rights issues through investigation, research, policy advisories, and advocacy. Its mission encompasses promoting justice, equality, and the dignity of all individuals in Nepal. By creating a culture of human rights awareness, NHRC plays a critical role in ensuring accountability for rights violations.

The Competition: A Platform for Advocacy and Awareness

NHRC Nepal recognizes the power of storytelling to shine a light on human rights challenges. The “NHRC Nepal Short Film Competition 2024” seeks to amplify voices, highlight systemic barriers, and propose solutions. By transforming complex human rights themes into digestible and captivating narratives, participants will foster public understanding and inspire positive change.

Eligibility Criteria

The competition is open to:

  • Individuals: All Nepali residents and citizens abroad.
  • Entities: Registered organizations, companies, and corporations in Nepal.
  • Multiple Entries: Participants may submit more than one film, each detailed in the application.

Key Points for Entry:

  • Films should focus on solutions and highlight the potential for positive human rights development.
  • Defamation or abuse of any individual or organization will result in disqualification.
  • Content inciting violence, discrimination, or communal tension will be rejected.
  • Films that defame or abuse children, women, or minorities will not be accepted.

How to Participate and Publish Your Film

  1. Create a Short Film: Adhere to the duration (10 minutes max) and format (MP4, Full HD) guidelines.
  2. Submit for Approval: Send your film via Google Drive to dipendra.singh@nhrcnepal.org or abhishek.chand@nhrcnepal.org. Await an approval email before publishing.
  3. Publish and Share: Post the approved film on social media and tag NHRC Nepal. Use #NHRCNepalShortFilm2024 and share widely to increase engagement.

Important Details:

  • Language: Films can be in any Nepali language with English subtitles or in English with Nepali subtitles.
  • Format: Acceptable formats include horizontal, vertical, short, reel, or motion picture. Resolution options include 1920x1080p or 1280x720p.
  • Title and Credits: Begin with “National Human Rights Commission of Nepal – Short Film Contest 2024” and end with proper credits.

Screening Rights and Permissions

NHRC Nepal reserves the right to use submitted films for educational and promotional purposes. Participants must provide an undertaking and will retain ownership, allowing them to monetize and submit their films to other festivals.

Engage and Win: Prizes and Recognition

  • First Prize: Rs. 25,000
  • Second Prize: Rs. 15,000
  • Third Prize: Rs. 7,000 Top films will be screened at NHRC’s Human Rights Day event, and winners will receive certificates. The competition is judged based on social media engagement, including likes, shares, and comments. Analytics will be reviewed for fairness, and paid promotions are prohibited.
