Chaudhary, who is an account holder at the bank, had been using the bank’s services regularly for deposit and withdrawal transactions.
Exploiting Bank’s Security Lapse
Chaudhary knew that the bank lacked security guards during late-night hours. This knowledge led him to attempt a large-scale theft in the early hours of Sunday. He broke into the bank by forcefully opening the lock and attempted to access the money stored in a secure room.
Police Quickly Respond to Alarm
The bank’s monitoring system alerted the authorities when Chaudhary triggered a red signal on the central screen. The District Police Office in Ghorahi responded quickly, dispatching a team to the bank. Inspector Binod Khatri led the operation that resulted in Chaudhary’s capture at the scene.
Tools and Vehicle Seized
When the police arrived, they discovered Chaudhary’s scooter, registered as RA 5 P 9799, parked near the bank. Upon arresting him, the police found tools such as a hammer, chisel, and hacksaw in his possession. These tools were intended for use in breaking into the secure areas of the bank.
Chaudhary’s Motive for the Attempted Theft
During questioning, Chaudhary explained that he had been desperate for money to fund his medical treatment. He admitted to trying to steal money from the bank as a way to pay for his treatment. According to police, Chaudhary has a rod in his leg, which he cited as the reason for his financial distress.
Investigation Continues
Chaudhary’s statement about his motives is being further investigated. Police are examining the full scope of his intentions and whether there were any other reasons behind the crime. Authorities are also reviewing his background and connections to any other criminal activity in the area.
Bank’s Security Systems Prevented Theft
Despite the absence of a night guard, the bank’s advanced security systems, including CCTV and central monitoring, played a key role in detecting the break-in. These systems quickly alerted the police, preventing the theft from going further.
Further Investigations Underway
Chaudhary remains in police custody, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. Police are working to verify his claims about needing money for medical treatment. The investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available.
This incident highlights the importance of ensuring that financial institutions have strong security measures in place, even during off-hours, to prevent potential crimes.
