This four-year undergraduate degree is being delivered at the Shramik Shanti Campus in Chyasal, Lalitpur, marking a significant step toward building a future-ready, tech-savvy workforce in the country.
As industries globally pivot toward automation and data-driven decision-making, this initiative positions Pokhara University as a leader in digital academic transformation within Nepal.
A Curriculum Built for the Future
The BAIDS program is not just about theory; it is a meticulously designed 122-credit-hour course that balances academic rigor with hands-on technical skills. According to Dean Buddhi Raj Joshi of the Faculty of Science and Technology, the program’s focus extends beyond basic AI usage.
Key pillars of the curriculum include:
Application Development: Creating real-world AI solutions.
Cybersecurity & Ethics: Ensuring the safe and responsible use of intelligence systems.
Data Analysis: Mastering the tools to interpret complex datasets.
Practical Learning: Out of the 122 credits, a significant portion is dedicated to laboratory work and guidance (tutorials), ensuring students are industry-ready.
Inclusivity: Breaking the “Science-Only” Barrier
One of the most progressive aspects of this program is its accessibility. Pokhara University has opened its doors to students from diverse academic backgrounds.
Eligibility Note: While a pure Science background (+2 Science) is not mandatory, applicants must have studied Mathematics or Computer Science in their Grade 11 and 12, regardless of whether they come from Management, Humanities, or other faculties.
Enrollment, Scholarships, and Investment
The university has initially set a quota of 48 students per semester to ensure high-quality, focused instruction.
Scholarships: To promote merit and accessibility, 9 seats are allocated for scholarships, with additional incentives for semester toppers.
Financial Investment: The total cost for the four-year program is approximately Rs. 478,200 (plus a refundable deposit), making it a competitive option for high-end technical education within Nepal.
Bridging the Industry Gap: Internships and Placement
A standout feature of the BAIDS program is the mandatory internship component. Students will be placed as Data Analysts in both Nepalese government agencies and private sector firms.
This direct link between academia and industry ensures that Nepalese youth can compete on a global stage without needing to go abroad for specialized tech education.
Expert-Led Academic Excellence
The syllabus was finalized after extensive workshops involving over 50 ICT experts. The program’s launch was facilitated by key academic figures, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bed Raj KC, technical advisor Prof. Dr. Subarna Shakya, and program coordinator Phul Babu Jha.
