In an inspiring display of corporate social responsibility and national unity, Sagarmatha Smashers, a flagship team in the inaugural Nepal Volleyball League (NVL), has decided to forego a commercial sponsor. Instead, the team has placed the QR code for the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund prominently in the main sponsor slot on their team apparel.
The decision comes in the wake of the catastrophic flood in Rasuwa’s Bhote Koshi River, which resulted in severe loss of life, displacement, and widespread destruction of property.
Standing in Solidarity with Rasuwa Flood Victims
Team Promoter Shani Raj Bhandari highlighted that the initiative aims to mobilize support directly from volleyball fans across the nation toward rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts in the affected regions.
Expressing deep grief over the tragedy, the entire Sagarmatha Smashers squad offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the swift recovery and safe relocation of missing and displaced citizens.
“Volleyball is Nepal’s national sport, and the public’s emotional connection to it is profound. When the nation faces a crisis, we can overcome it only by standing together. Guided by this belief, we chose to replace a commercial logo with the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund QR code for this inaugural NVL season.”

In addition to the team’s initiative, NVL organizers previously announced that 100% of ticket sales revenue from the opening match would be contributed directly to the PM Relief Fund.

Strong Opening Performance in NVL Debut
The first-ever edition of the Nepal Volleyball League officially commenced at the National Sports Council (NSC) Covered Hall in Tripureshwor. Sagarmatha Smashers kicked off their campaign on a high note, defeating Madhesh Warriors 3–1 in sets in the tournament opener.
Tournament Overview & Format
Teams Participating: 6 franchise teams
Format: Single round-robin league
Finals Qualification: The top team advances directly to the final; second- and third-ranked teams compete in a playoff for the remaining spot.
Prize Money: The winning team will take home NPR 20 Lakhs (NPR 2 Million)—the highest cash prize in Nepali volleyball history.
Duration: Running through Bhadra 25.
By combining sportsmanship with humanitarian action, Sagarmatha Smashers and the NVL organizers have set a new benchmark for sports diplomacy and community support in Nepal.
