Kathmandu Reds and Sagarmatha Smashers registered victories on Saturday in the ongoing Xtreme Energy Drink Nepal Volleyball League (NVL) at the National Sports Council (NSC) Covered Hall in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu.
Kathmandu Reds Triumph in Five-Set Thriller
In one of the most competitive encounters of the tournament, Kathmandu Reds fought back from a set down to defeat Madhesh Warriors 3–2 in their opening fixture.
After dropping the first set 20–25, Kathmandu rallied to take the second and third sets 26–24 and 25–17. Madhesh forced a deciding tie-breaker by claiming the fourth set 25–22, but Kathmandu sealed the final set 16–14.
Kathmandu’s Ahmad Mustafa Khan was named Man of the Match for his stellar performance. The result marked Madhesh Warriors’ second consecutive defeat of the tournament.
Sagarmatha Smashers Maintain Unbeaten Streak
Sagarmatha Smashers continued their dominant run by sweeping Khaptad Falcons in 3–0 straight sets (25–18, 25–18, 25–19).
Sagarmatha’s star player Aimal Khan was named Man of the Match for the second consecutive game, having previously earned the award in Sagarmatha’s 3–1 opening victory against Madhesh Warriors.

Tournament Format & Historic Prize Pool
Organized by the Kedia Group in association with the Nepal Volleyball Association, the tournament is Nepal’s first-ever men’s franchise volleyball league.
Format: 6 men’s teams playing in a single round-robin format. The top-ranked team qualifies directly for the final, while the second- and third-placed teams battle in a playoff for the remaining final spot.
Prize Pool: Record-breaking total prize money of NPR 3.2 million (NPR 32 Lakhs)—the highest in Nepali volleyball history. The championship winner will earn NPR 2.0 million (NPR 20 Lakhs).
