Samsung announced and released Samsung Galaxy Note 3 smartphone on September 2013 that comes up with an Android OS, v4.3 (Jelly Bean) upgradable to v4.4.2 (KitKat) that is further upgradable to v5.0 (Lollipop). This phone supports GSM /HPSA/ LTE/ CDMA/ EVDO network configurations. This phone has a dimension of 151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3 mm (5.95 x 3.12 x 0.33 in) having thickness 8.3 mm and weighs about 168 grams. It uses Micro-SIM S Pen stylus technology.
The screen size is 5.7 inches, and the screen-to-body ratio is 74.8%. The display is of 16M colors and has Super AMOLED capacities touchscreen. The screen resolution is 1080 x 1920 pixels which are precisely 386 PPI pixel density. The screen comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The GPU used is Adreno 330 (N9005, N9002)/ Mali-T628 MP6 (N9000).
It supports multi-touch and has got Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (N9005, N9002)/ Exynos 5420 Octa (N9000) chipset, and CPU comprises of Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 (N9005, N9002)/ Quad-core 1.9 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 (N9000) processors. The internal memory available is 16/32/64 GB, and it contains 3 GB RAM. It also includes a micro SD card expanded up to 64 GB (dedicated slot).
The primary camera comprises of a 13 MP, f/2.2, 31 mm, autofocus, LED flash camera while secondary comprises of 2 MP, f/2.4, 27 mm and 1080 p@30 fps camera. The video feature includes 2160 p@30 fps and 1080 p@60 fps (N 9005, N 9002)/ 1080 p (N 9000). The primary camera features include 1/3″ sensor size, 1.12 µm pixel size, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, and HDR.
The microphone jack is 3.55 mm and has got stereo loudspeakers. The WLAN supported are Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, and hotspot. The Bluetooth version is 4.0, A2DP, EDR, LE. It also comes with NFC connection and an IR port but does not contain an FM radio. The USB available is v3.0 micro USB (MHL 3 TV-out) with USB Host. It also comes with accelerate, Fingerprint, gyro, temperature, humidity, air gesture, compass, barometer and proximity sensors.
The messaging can be performed via MMS, SMS threaded view, IM, Email and Push mail. The GPS technology is A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS. The browser is HTML 5. The phone also comes with S-Voice natural language commands and dictation and ANT+ support as well as Air gestures. It also comes with 50 GB cloud Dropbox storage.
The battery used is Non-removable Li-Po 3200 mAH battery that gives up to 420 h (3 G) standby and 20 h (3 G) talk time battery life while the endurance rating is 75h. The colors available are Black, White, Pink, Merlot Red, Rose Gold Black, and Rose Gold White. The available models are Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N 9000 with 3 G connectivity; Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N 9002 with dual SIM card support and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N 9005 with 3G & LTE connectivity.
The main disadvantages are N 9000 model (Exynos) lacks LTE and 2160p video capture; the large size makes single-hand operation hideous. Also, there is no OIS, no dedicated camera key and no FM radio. Even the shared camera interface makes framing tricky.
