WOCCU Digital Growth Award: Chandragiri Savings & Credit Cooperative Wins Historic Global Honor

The Nepalese cooperative movement has achieved a historic milestone on the international stage. Chandragiri Saving and Credit Cooperative Limited, based in Thankot, Kathmandu, has won the prestigious Digital Growth Award 2026 presented by the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU).

With this win, Chandragiri has become the first Nepalese institution ever to receive this honor.
The award was presented on Monday during WOCCU’s Annual General Meeting and World Credit Union Conference held in Sydney, Australia.
WOCCU Chairperson Michael Lawrence and President and CEO Paul Treinen handed over the award to Chandragiri’s Chief Executive Officer, Krishna Kumar Shrestha.
Recognition of Digital Transformation
WOCCU awarded the Digital Growth Award in recognition of Chandragiri’s effective use of digital technology in member services, fast and reliable service delivery, and remarkable progress in institutional digital transformation. The award featured global competition among member institutions worldwide.

Following the recognition, CEO Krishna Kumar Shrestha stated that the honor provides renewed energy for the institution’s commitment to technology-friendly services.
He emphasized that the achievement is the result of the collective efforts of the institution’s members, board of directors, supervisory committee, employees, and partners, while reaffirming their dedication to delivering high-quality and innovative services in the future.
Inspiring Success for Nepalese Cooperatives
Dr. Shivajee Sapkota, Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Federation of Savings and Credit Cooperative Unions (NEFSCUN), described the achievement as an inspiring success for the entire savings and credit cooperative movement in Nepal.
According to him, this international recognition proves that Nepalese cooperatives are fully capable of competing globally in technology adoption and service quality.
He also expressed confidence that at a time when various negative perceptions surrounding the cooperative sector are circulating, such international honors will help rebuild and strengthen public trust in Nepalese cooperatives.
