AI in Journalism Workshop Nepal: CAN Federation and FEJA Collaborate for Newsroom Innovation

CAN Federation and FEJA are jointly organizing the ‘AI in Journalism Workshop’ on July 26, 2026. Empowering Nepalese journalists with AI tools, fighting misinformation, and driving digital transformation in modern newsrooms.
AI in Journalism Workshop Nepal
The ‘AI in Journalism Workshop’ is set to take place on July 26, 2026, jointly organized by the Computer Association of Nepal Federation (CAN Federation) and the Female Economic Journalist Association (FEJA). The workshop will feature expert training on utilizing AI tools in newsrooms and controlling misinformation.
Led by Chiranjibi Adhikari, Acting President of the CAN Federation and a prominent leader in the information technology sector, the workshop aims to promote the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Nepal’s media sector.
This special workshop will run from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on July 26, 2026 (Shrawan 10, 2083).
A recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to formalize the initiative, which was conceptualized and initiated by Chiranjibi Adhikari, who also serves as the Founding CEO of One Cover Private Limited.
The agreement was signed by CAN Federation Acting President Chiranjibi Adhikari, FEJA President Sharmila Thakuri, Simoli Desai representing the program’s AI partner Sunway College Kathmandu, and Santosh Dhungana, President of the Tech Bloggers Association of Nepal (TBAN).
Emphasis on Women Journalists’ Empowerment and Misinformation Control
FEJA President Sharmila Thakuri praised the initiative, stating that becoming technologically proficient in the digital age makes this ‘AI in Journalism’ workshop particularly fruitful for women journalists.
Highlighting the objectives of the collaboration, CAN Federation Acting President Chiranjibi Adhikari noted that technology plays an indispensable role in modern newsrooms. He stated that this strategic partnership with FEJA will teach journalists the proper use of AI tools to identify financial and data-related fraud, as well as to minimize misinformation, disinformation, and fake news circulating in society.
Technical Training by Domain Experts
The two-hour intensive workshop will feature training sessions conducted by prominent experts from Nepal’s IT and media sectors:
Ritesh Ghimire (Lead Trainer): Founder and Mentor of TBAN, Ghimire is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Kantipur Neo, the technical branch of Kantipur Media Group. With over a decade of experience in media technology, he specializes in building scalable digital news platforms, AI-driven newsroom solutions, and high-performance content delivery infrastructure.

Prabigya Acharya (Co-Trainer): AI Research Coordinator at Sunway College Kathmandu, Acharya will present aspects of AI research and its practical applications during the workshop.
