Digital Soil Map in Nepal

The Digital Soil Map of Nepal has been made public. Nepal has made the digital soil map public for the first time in South Asia.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli unveiled a digital soil map at the Yak & Yeti Hotel in Kathmandu. You can now get information about the soil in every corner of the country from the website.

A digital map has been prepared so that information on the condition of the soil can be obtained by clicking on any point not just of the state, province, municipality, district.

The digital map was prepared by the National Center for Soil Science Research with technical assistance from Cement and financial support from UAEID.

This map was prepared on the basis of an analysis of the results of a total of 23,273 soil samples from 56 different districts, representing all the provinces of Nepal.

168 of the different environmental factors (covariates) that play a role in determining the soil properties on the basis of satellite images were considered during the preparation of the map.

Based on all of these, the Random Forest machine learning method has been used to predict the soil properties of different locations.

Digital soil maps may be used to assess the form of soil in a specific geographical area. The acidity of the soil, the amount of organic matter, the amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, the number of micronutrients, zinc, and boron may also be known.

First, click here to use the digital map. Then go to the map section and open the map of the soil. Go to the navigation screen, use the zoom button on the tool, drag the map and enlarge the desired section.

Then you can pick a polygon tool to go to the area you want to go to by making a square or triangle shape, choose the area you want, and get soil details from it.

Soil details can also be downloaded to your computer or mobile device.
