To make the security of Kathmandu more tight Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is installing CCTV camera in 18 hundred places.

Earlier, Nepal Police has installed cc camera in 350 places around Kathmandu metropolitan. Since those numbers of cameras are not enough KMC is adding more cameras. Police have invested more than five hundred cameras.

In collaboration with Nepal Police, KMC is installing more than a thousand cameras, informed Dhurav Kafle, chief at KMC information technology department.

A week ago a task force was formed between Nepal Police and KMC to install the cameras. Earlier the Nepal police introduced the cc camera in significant parts of KMC, but this time it is going to be kept in heritage areas, river and a less secure place.

Similarly, in coming days cameras will also be placed in the dumping sites. To monitor the work of metropolitan official and to check whether the official has managed the dumping sites or not cameras are being installed in dumping areas. Similarly, another motive to place the camera is to check whether the public correctly disposes the waste or not.

KMC said that the installation of the camera would help in maintaining a good and clean environment around heritage sites. The distance to set the camera will depend upon its coverage capacity. Usually, a camera capacity ranges from 3 to 24 meters.

For the operation, there is no investment by Nepal Police and KMC; the task will run under the public-private partnership program. It is informed that the work of installing cc cameras will start by the end of Dashain.

Let’s hope the installation of cc cameras in KMC will bring more positive changes. Since the criminal activities were growing immensely from last few time back, it was indispensable to put cameras in KMC.

Majority of people, organizations and institutes reside in Kathmandu so the placement of cc camera can play a significant role for all the KTM dwellers.
