META has requested to report any false information or ‘hate speech’ posted or shared on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp regarding the upcoming House of Representatives and State Assembly elections.

Meta’s representatives have said that when reporting in that way, they will review those posts and remove them if necessary.

“Anyone can report election-related propaganda on Facebook against the code of conduct,” says Ayesha Hashem, Meta’s Public Policy Head for South Asia.

Hashem says that firstly Meta’s AI will identify any hate speech and even after that, if they are not satisfied, the team will study further and proceed with the process. She also added that since Meta Company has employees who understand the Nepali language, content written in Nepali will also be heard soon.

In addition, she said, the user can write a report and send it in the Nepali language.

This week, representatives of the Election Commission and Meta organized the ‘Nepal Election Integrity Summit and informed political parties, civil society, journalists, and other stakeholders about the tools and policies of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
