To counter severe communication blackouts caused by devastating floods, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has deployed 20 high-end satellite phones to the worst-hit districts of Rasuwa and Nuwakot.
The critical communication tools have been handed over to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) to streamline ongoing search, rescue, and relief operations following the catastrophic Bhotekoshi River floods.
Bridging the Communication Gap in Remote Terrain
Conventional mobile networks and telecom towers often fail in remote, mountainous regions—especially after natural disasters destroy local infrastructure. Satellite technology bypasses ground towers entirely, enabling uninterrupted voice calls and SMS text services directly via satellite connection.
