Shikhar Insurance Company Limited, an established player in the non-life insurance sector, has improved several key indicators of its insurance business through the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2082/83.

Although rising claim payments and total expenses put pressure on profitability, key indicators of the company insurance business and financial foundation continued to show steady progress.
Net Profit and Earnings Per Share Decline
During the review period, Shikhar Insurance Company Limited posted a net profit of 130.89 million rupees. In the same period of the previous fiscal year, the company had earned a net profit of 452.01 million rupees.
Accordingly, net profit declined by 71.22 percent year-on-year.
The company earnings per share EPS stood at 4.19 rupees during the review period, down from 15.50 rupees in the previous fiscal year. Meanwhile, the net worth per share of the company was reported at 191.95 rupees.
Paid Up Capital and Reserve Funds Growth
The paid up capital of Shikhar Insurance Company Limited increased by 6.11 percent to reach 3.10 billion rupees, compared to 2.92 billion rupees in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
The insurance fund recorded significant growth during the fourth quarter. The fund increased by 33.53 percent to reach 794.73 million rupees, compared to 595.15 million rupees a year earlier.
The company also increased its disaster fund by 4.04 percent to 167.6 million rupees, compared to 161.1 million rupees in the previous fiscal year. The expansion of reserves for risk management has further strengthened the financial security of the company.
Net Insurance Premium Earned and Policy Volume
Shikhar Insurance Company Limited made positive progress in expanding its non-life insurance business. During the review period, it earned net insurance premiums of 1.96 billion rupees, compared to 1.77 billion rupees in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
This represents a 10.64 percent increase in net insurance premium income.
The company issued 336,002 insurance policies during the review period, compared to 309,863 policies in the previous fiscal year. The increase in the number of policies highlights the continued expansion of the insurance reach and business operations of the company.
Claim Payments Total Income and Expenses
During the review period, the company made total claim payments of 3.98 billion rupees, compared to 3.03 billion rupees in the previous year. The 31.30 percent increase in claim payments demonstrates the focus of the company on fulfilling its obligations to policyholders.
Total income of the company increased by 7.44 percent to reach 2.96 billion rupees, compared to 2.75 billion rupees in the previous year.
Meanwhile, investment income declined from 254.49 million rupees in the previous year down to 186.32 million rupees during the review period.
Total expenses reached 2.78 billion rupees, compared to 2.09 billion rupees in the previous year. The higher expense figure was driven by spending associated with business expansion and claim payments.
Commission Expenses and Retained Earnings
Commission expenses saw a positive reduction during the fourth quarter. Commission expenses fell by 16.79 percent from 72.996 million rupees in the previous fiscal year to 60.742 million rupees during the review period.
Retained earnings declined by 62.06 percent year-on-year to 79.866 million rupees, compared to 210.489 million rupees in the previous year.
