According to Google’s official website, Plus Codes are similar to street addresses for people or places that don’t have one.

Unlike the traditional street address and house name that is government-dependent, Plus Codes focuses on latitude and longitude and displayed as numbers and letters.

It is basically a combination of two elements, first being a short code (6 or 7 letters and numbers) and second a Locality (town or city). The system is based on a grid dividing the surface of the Earth into small areas that are progressively subdivided into smaller areas, assigning a unique code that any person can generate, share and search for on their device.
