The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) will provide Internet access to airlines flying above 10,000 feet. We all love to surf the Internet. Now on 10,000 feet in the sky, we can use the Internet. This means even we are 10,000 feet above an airplane, we can use the Internet.

Passengers on international airlines will now be able to use the internet in Nepali skies, according to the NTA.

This was the decision was made by the NTA Board of Directors meeting on Chaitra 9. NTA, on the other hand, will not offer any services to Nepali airlines.

Nepal has become the third country in South Asia to provide sky-based telecommunications services. Before India and Afghanistan offered Internet access in the sky above 10,000 feet.

NTA Spokesperson Santosh Poudel said, if an application for an in-flight telecommunication service to be used within a foreign airline, it will be approved. He also said that various conditions have been placed on international airlines in order for them to use the Internet in the sky.

As per NTA, aircrafts flying below 10,000 feet will not be allowed the use of the internet as the provision of the internet at low altitudes could affect the services of local Telecom service providers.

NTA can only permit the use of mobile phones and the Internet in the affected aircraft if certain conditions are met.

Previously, three companies had applied to the NTA to provide internet access in the sky. Based on the foreign company’s demand, the NTA agreed to allow the service to operate from the board meeting. After consulting with the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, the Ministry of Communications, and other agencies too.
