The satellite will be used to conduct a census in Kalapani, Lipulek area. In the national census starting from Thursday, the government will conduct the census in Kalapani, Lipulek area with the help of satellite.

In a press conference organized by the Central Statistics Office on Wednesday, it was informed that if India does not allow census in those areas, data will be collected using the latest technology.

The 12th National Census will begin on Thursday with the slogan ‘My Count, My Participation’.

Director-General of the Department, Navin Lal Shrestha, said that the census would be conducted in the presence of the Government of India in the case of geography included in the map of Nepal. If this is not possible, the census will be conducted using other sources and the estimated details of the area will be published.

According to him, now that the latest technology has been developed, it is easy to estimate the number of households in those areas using satellite. He said that he would publish a report with an estimate of the average number of families living in a house.

In this census, data will be collected from tablets using the digital copy method in 6 municipalities of Kathmandu district including Kathmandu Metropolitan City and a paper questionnaire will be used in other places across the country. A total of 2250 tablets will be used in the Kathmandu district.

In addition, the department has stated that the details of Nepali employees and dependents are being collected from the website application by adopting the e-census method in Nepali diplomatic missions abroad.

The department is going to deploy 40,000 enumerators for the census.
