Nepal Internet Foundation Event

Stakeholders have called for an end to violence against women. This was stated by the stakeholders participating in the project ‘Internet for Women and Children’ at the National Nachghar, Jamal, on Sunday (December 05, 2021).

Ministry for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Uma Regmi and founder of Selfie with Daughter Campaign Sunil Jaglan were the chief guests at the event, presided over by Bikram Shrestha, President of Nepal Internet Foundation.

Also present as guests, Sunil Nanda, Advisor of Selfie with Daughter, Aarti Nepal, President of Women Entrepreneurs Association Nepal and Lipasha Shrestha, President of JCI Budhanilkantha.

The chief guest of the program, Regmi, said that violence against women would not end without eradicating the root causes of violence against women from home.

“We have so far raised the issue of violence against women. The anti-violence campaign was launched, ‘said Minister Regmi. Only the victims were able to get the program together.

Now, she insists on working towards results by changing its modalities. She says that to achieve result-oriented results, the minds of predators need to be changed.

Although various laws have been enacted to end violence against women, they have not been fully implemented. Minister Regmi expressed her commitment to work for the law’s full implementation.

Stating that the world can be viewed through the internet, she stressed the need to expand the internet in remote areas. “The Internet is being misused now. It should be used properly, “she said.

Similarly, the special guest of the program Sunal Jaglan also stressed the need not to discriminate against women. He said that 16,000 houses in Namobuddha Municipality of Kavre were identified in the daughters’ name.

He says that some nameplates were even vandalized in 2015 when the nameplate was replaced and the daughter’s name was used. The Selfie with Daughter campaign launched last June 09, 2020, has been completed in Nepal.

More than 1,000 selfies were sent during the month-long campaign. The period chart campaign started in India has also started in Nepal.

They have even formed a Chori panchayat in Bohare, Kavre. According to Jaglan, such a campaign could improve relations with Nepal.

In the program, Sunil Nanda also emphasized ending violence against women. He said that women have the potential to reach great heights.

Speaking on occasion, Aarti Nepal, president of the Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal, said that the organization was working to make women entrepreneurs and more toward success.

Certificates were distributed to the Selfie with Daughter campaign winners at the event. The certificate was handed over by Minister Uma Regmi.

The first prize went to Pratishtha Lama of Okhaldhunga, second prize to Nisudika Rai and third prize to Shreya Poudel.

They were given Rs 21,000, Rs 11,000 and Rs 5,100 in cash respectively. The amount was transferred to the bank account during the period of COVID-19. Certificates were also given to some of the best selfies.

Also, certificates were given to the program’s top 30 best selfies and volunteers. The winner of the Selfie with Daughter campaign also called for an end to violence against women.

Speaking after the program, Bikram Shrestha, President of Nepal Internet Foundation and President of the program, said that the internet is a powerful tool these days. He said, “Internet can be considered an important tool after food, clothing and housing.”

The Nepal Internet Foundation has recently set up a community network in Uttargaya, Rasuwa, as part of a one-week program. Similarly, the organization had organized a program for women empowerment in Bohare Kanpur, Kavre, with the slogan Chori Bacchau, Chori Padhau. The Nepal Internet Foundation had connected the internet in the area mentioned above after finding out there wasn’t any internet access.

After this, the foundation organized a program against sexual violence at Kathmandu University. The program’s slogan was ‘Let’s start from home and end violence against women.

On Friday (December 03, 2021), the organization organized a Tribhuvan University program. On Saturday, the organization held a meeting with all stakeholders. The program concluded on Sunday with the distribution of awards and certificates. Also, a meeting of stakeholders has been held today morning.

Due to the Pandemic, the program was concluded with the participation of a limited number of people. The Ministry of Women supported the program, Children and Senior Citizens, Nepal Telecommunication Authority, Selfie with Daughter, JCI Budhanilkantha, Sajilo Pay, NREN, iMark, Vianet communication and other organizations.
