NTA Frequency Strategy

7th July  2021, Kathmandu

Nepal Telecommunications Authority is the telecommunications regulatory body of Nepal.

It is an autonomous body established in Feb 1998 in accordance with the Telecommunications Act, 1997 and Telecommunications Regulation, 1998.

The NTA is responsible for regulating all matters related to telecommunications of Nepal.

The Telecommunications Authority of Nepal, the regulatory body of the telecommunications sector, is preparing a national strategy for frequency management.

NTA has taken the process forward by studying the management of the frequency allocated for the telecommunication sector and the possibility of additional frequencies.

For this, NTA has formed a sub-committee under the coordination of Director Amber Sthapit. It is stated that the committee is working to prepare the study report within 15 days.

According to the established director, this strategy will cover many aspects of frequency.

Under this, a report will be prepared including the roadmap of frequencies, frequency management, and how to maintain transparency in it.

The number of frequencies currently available in which frequency and which of the existing frequencies can be used for which technology will also be covered.

It will also determine how much to give to the available frequency service provider.

In addition, the possibility of using some of the frequencies that are not currently in use will be explored and the groundwork will be laid for their use in the telecommunications sector in the coming days.

NTA had earlier conducted a study for a roadmap of frequencies. The study has already prepared and explained a meal.

However, the further study process has been started as the strategy was needed at the beginning rather than the roadmap of frequency.

This sub-committee will prepare the strategy including the frequency roadmap and submit it to the authority.

The proposed strategy will reach the National Frequency Policy Determination Committee chaired by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

It has been stated that the frequency strategy will be implemented as soon as the committee passes it.
