Michael Collins was an American astronaut who flew the Apollo 11 command module Columbia around the Moon in 1969 while his crewmates. He was also a test pilot and major general in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He was born on October 31, 1930,

The first spacecraft pilot, Michael Collins, has died. Apollo 11 pilot Collins, who died of cancer, died Wednesday at the age of 90.

He is a member of three astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, who made their first successful voyage to the moon in 1969.

Although Michael Collins had the opportunity to walk on the moon in space, he did not land on Apollo 11. Collins was born in Rome in 1930. Collins was selected by NASA in 1963.

Of the Apollo 11 missions, only Aldrin survives. He is now 91 years old. Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, also died in 2012.
