I am very grateful for this opportunity teaching at ECPI University and excited to start a new career as a professor of East Cost Poly-technical University (www.ecpi.edu).
It has been already a year since I started teaching at the university. Time flies by just like that just wanted to share my experiences. The first day of my teaching, I was so nervous and elated, felt prepared but I was looking underprepared and overwhelmed, I was stuck in my point of view sometimes, how I was teaching in English, language barriers, how loudly I was talking to students, and how students were thinking about my teaching practice, blah blah blah.
The second day, my teaching got a lot better, easing out, as time passed got better and better. I was also encouraged by the student’s feedback. Along the way, I learned the most important lesson a teacher can learn. I liked the students, and the students liked my style of teaching and industry experiences I brought into the class. By far the most significant surprise has been the realization that teaching is not like writing a dissertation. Especially in IT, you should be prepared to bring more practices, help them understand the foundation of the topics you are teaching. In a few months, I received one of the best reviews; later I was asked to change the curriculum of IT programs of the University. I always like to come up with a new idea that can be applied to my students every time I walk into the classroom. There is nothing more inspirational than a teacher dreaming about being able to give flight to a student’s dreams.
Teaching is an honorable profession; I am so grateful for being a professor of Cyber Security, the hottest topic in the world where daily over a half million cyber-attacks occur. It is becoming a bigger issue of everyone who is connected with technologies. This is the most challenging and loving job I ever had because I was also one of the millions who was born elsewhere, struggled many many years in America to achieve dreams.
Without you, I am nothing, with you I am something, and together we are everything. Thanks to my beloved wife, my kids, my parents, my family members, my friends, and well-wishers for your love and support.
To introduce myself, it’s me Sindhu Aryal from Butwal, Rupandehi. Moreover, I’m pursuing BSC.CSIT 2nd semester on Butwal Multiple Campus, Butwal & furthermore, I’m working as a Media Manager in Butwal Coder Girls. My experience in the IT field is entirely different from others. I was even unsure of my career until my high schools.
I must say, I was fortunate enough that I got to learn about the computer at minimum grades at Pokhara as my teacher used to teach those theories so precisely that I used to have a big craze of computing. I do vividly remember those days were fantastic. Later on, due to some hindrances, we shifted here & everything smashed upon. It took years to create the same environment here. In those 9th& 10th grades, HTML and QBASIC used to be my favorite topics.
But after my 10th grade, with the aim of entering the medical field, I studied +2 sciences with Biology as a primary subject. But life didn’t go as it was planned.
Unfortunately, my grandpa passed away, which became the turning point in my life. During this time, I got chance to meet lots of my relatives; take their views which in turn helped me to shape my future and even helped me to get introduced with the important mysteries of the life. As per papa’s advice, I appeared the entrance exam of BSC.CSIT & passed it. That’s how I stepped into the World of Information Technology.
Having an interest developed about this career at the core of my heart, I moved on. Luckily, I met my two seniors Mr. Hyarish Bhusal &Mr. Bishal Aryal, who motivated, encouraged & worth saying, changed the theme of my life. They made me more concern about this field as they; themselves were involved in this field. Finally, with lots of hopes in my heart & dreams in my eyes, I joined BSC.CSIT on Butwal Multiple Campus. Slowly & gradually, I was able to know many old &genius faces of seniors which helped to build confidence that Yeah, I’ve chosen one of the best careers.
In my life towards the future, I’d like to work as a Web developer. Your job as a web developer is to present your clients’ products and services to a wide audience by creating attractive, functional websites. Your work may include meeting with clients to discuss their desires for a website or discuss how to keep their websites functioning and up to date. You might construct the layout of a website, creating a visually interesting homepage and user-friendly design. You may also write the content for the website. After a website is up and running, you’ll make sure that the site is functional on all web browsers, periodically testing and updating it as needed. A client may also need you to include interactive capabilities on their site using Visual Basic or Java programming. And I’m on the way for achieving this goal.
The time was moving on continuously with its own pace. One day, I came to know about Butwal Coder Girls. With much too curiosity, I went to my seniors to have some information about it & learned right from its establishment stories to the plans. I just loved them & got my membership the very next day. Working on it, I’ve earned lots of experiences of not only about the internal issues but even how to deal with our external environment right from leadership motive to carrier development that would take years to know about, if alone. I’ve also learned about teamwork and to cope up with challenges. Actively participating in the field work, I was promoted as Executive Member. We’ve been working in this field to support & encourage the girls to be in this field. It’s too complicated for a girl to move on with this carrier in our country, as our society can’t tolerate a girl being busy in the laptops & the cell phones. Of course, Butwal Coder Girls is trying to eliminate such problems by imparting knowledge about related fields, through interaction programs with the guardians and many more. Come and join with us. We will heartily welcome and also love to share our experience with you. Lastly, I’d like to present my heartfelt gratitude to the entire team of Butwal Coder Girls, who supported me through my thick and thins&obviously in my career. I feel very proud to be associated with Butwal Coder Girls. Also, I’m thankful to my lovable family&my uncle Mr. Suraj Aryal for your kind support.
To conclude, the flower is very charming & whenever watched at, we would love them to plug out. But if plugged, all its beauty has vanished away. Similarly, Via Butwal Coder Girls medium, I would like to see every girl be glowing beautifully as those of garland of flowers &as lovely & essential as the ball of the eye.
Imagine, if you will, a Digital Nepal- a nation with a prospering digital sector, where our businesses, people, and government are all using digital technology to drive innovation, increase productivity, and enrich the quality of life for all the Nepalese. Seems cool, doesn’t it? Let’s discuss the fundamental steps needed to be taken to build a Digital Nation.
The first important step in building a Digital Nation is connectivity. The main foundation of a Digital Nepal will be connecting people around the nation with the high-speed, affordable and easily accessible internet. A World Bank report finds that a 10% increase in high-speed Internet connections increases economic growth by about13%. Currently, about 21% of the population of Nepal (6.5 million people) have access to the internet. Until now the availability of internet has been saturated in developed cities like Kathmandu and Biratnagar but with the advancement in technology and the competitive market of Internet Service providers (ISPs) the availability is rapidly increasing, and the prices have been continuously dropping.
The second important step in forming Digital Nepal will be the formation of platforms to add value to the availability of the Internet of the citizens. When people are connected, online businesses are inevitable to bloom. A Digital Nepali will have all access to products and services just a click away. No more standing in lines to pay your electricity and telephone bills; no more token system for depositing and withdrawing money from banks. A Digital Nepal will have fast, reliable, efficient and secure online payment gateways making financial transactions much faster.
Further, all the products will be available online, and most of them will be home delivered. Quite good news for everyone who hates shopping! Amazingly, such payment gateways and shopping platforms already exist in Nepal. We have payment gateways like e-Sewa and shopping platform such as Kaymu making life easier, but here again, the availability is constructed in the valley and some major cities. While making a digital Nepal, such platforms will increase their reliability and expand their availability in all places of Nepal.
The third and final stage will be to form a digital government. To form a Digital Nepal, serious efforts need to be made to digitalize the government, drive providing public services online, making visits to government offices an occasional event. Incorporating accessible technology in governmental enterprises helps agencies to improve productivity in municipal services and provide better social and community outcomes. A Digital Nepali will be able to vote for a parliament member via the internet while being at any part of the world using his digital signature. Such use of digital technology in Government will help it to operate more efficiently, to make better decision drive better results and to provide public services in a way that addresses the changing needs of businesses and people.
Sure, the road to a digital Nepal seems difficult. But even if we consider the recent trends in the development of ICT in the country, it will seem that a true Digital Nepal isn’t as far away as you think. What is needed right now is an improved education system which produces efficient manpower to carry this nation in the road of a Digital Revolution and improvement in policies by the government to make it easier for businesses to go online.
Rajendra Man Banepali presenting paper in CAN SoftTech Summit 2017.
Offsetting complexity of software conflict shaped from encounter of human intervention in development of software technology in Nepal, this article – presented in CAN Soft Tech 2017 – explores possible and sustainable ways as solutions introducing new way to explore challenges as myth or reality check.
Before to begin, I would like to set a context of software industry in Nepal. Rightly said – software industry in Nepal is a questionable in terms of maturity and its recognition in global context. In recent development in industry, Nepal is moving to product based software development than project base. We are pushing Nepali Software industry forward to maturity equipping actors – Software Company, consumer, and developers – of Nepali market including legitimacy. There are few myths which turn into reality these days.
In most of start-up or growing companies, they moved with high operating cost of supporting software in deployment and configuration stages. This is myth until it does not solve and turns into reality then. The myth might be just because of selection of inappropriate development tools which are very important for sustainable development of software companies. Research and development are best practice to explore possible solutions in a context of individual companies. That was a story during my experience in one of the leading software companies in Nepal. One of the companies was using incompatible database for their project which was hard to configure during deployment. Later on, product engineering team changed database into Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and within 2 months the company decreased support travel and cost of support staffs dramatically which ultimately contribute cost of operation of project for a long run. This is a symbolic issue of latent myth in software companies during software engineering, epistemologically, research and development (R&D) are ultimate ways to explore effective and efficient measures of way to the best practice and sustainability, even in terms of cost of human resource.
Mobility of human is fundamental phenomena in a life and it goes naturally in everywhere but frequency of turnover of technical human resource especially in software companies is higher than others. Such frequent changes in configuration of human resource morph software conflicting scene including clients in few cases where-as many times software companies face lack of skilled technical people in market. Those software conflicting scenes are often taken in communication gap, software incompleteness and tight deadline of submission due to human resource transition phase. Those conflicts could be over come just doing few things during software engineering. That is documentation of whatever development team does during software engineering. Documentation including process management like PRINCE2, PMT, and AGILE framework shows clear roadmap of the project to new comer and help to understanding further strategy to carry out to meet deadline of software submission. These documentation and process management are not easy tasks for startup business.
Most of the startup businesses in software industry gear up business model with high technical stuffs without problem-solving in real world. Those startup companies do not go long term due to lack of domain knowledge, patient and sustainability approach. That startup company should try to work on project differently than others. Most of the time startup companies try to get project in lower budget from clients which ultimately create software conflict if they could not manage project differently.
Software conflict is myth of failure of software in most cases due to manifolds issues – mainly budget, source code hacking and piracy. Lower budget of the project with the unlimited requirement, which might turn in a different direction during software engineering, do not carry strength to pay off to project team members which ultimately leads to failure of the project. Budget according to System Requirement Specification (SRS) between developer and client might be proposed solution to this problem. Latent software conflict – piracy and unauthorized operation – issues during deployment might also be prevented in generating license of the software.
Software industry of Nepal has tremendous opportunities rendering different activities for social values and problems. Those social problems and costs have set a goal to solve shortly for a better world by each government of nations around the globe. Nepal government had set Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in June 2016, and the United Nations is in a line of assisting technical and financial support to the government. SDGs has 17 goals in which goal number 9 has focused on infrastructure development in the least developed countries like Nepal by 2020 including infrastructure development for access to the internet for information for everyone. Software companies and other stakeholders could be the vital actor to break through those sustainable goals with public-private partnership.
The field of humanoids robotics, widely recognized as the current challenge for robotics research, is attracting the interest of many research groups worldwide. Important efforts have been devoted to the objective of developing humanoids and impressive results have been produced, from the technological point of view, especially for the problem of biped walking.
In Japan, important humanoid projects started in the last decade, have been carried on by the Waseda University and by Honda Motor Co. The Humanoid Project of the Waseda University, started in 1992, is a joint project of industry, government and academia, aiming at developing robots which support humans in the field of health care and industry during their life and that share with human information and behavioral space, so that particular attention has been posted to the problem of human-computer interaction. Within the Humanoid Project, the Waseda University developed three humanoid robots, as research platforms, namely Hadaly 2, Wabian and Wendy.
Impressive results have been also obtained by Honda Motor Co. Ltd with P2 and P3, self-contained humanoid robots with two arms and two legs, able to walk, to turn while walking, to climb up and down stairs. These laboratories on their humanoid robots carry on studies on human-robot interaction, on human-like movements and behavior and on brain mechanics of human cognition and sensory-motor learning.
Developing humanoids poses fascinating problems in the realization of manipulation capability, which is still one of the most complex problems in robotics. For its scientific content and for its utility in the most robotics applications, the problem of manipulation has been deeply investigated and many results are already available, both as hands and sensors and as control schemes.

A Biography of Bharat Raj Upreti. The name itself is sufficient, who is he? And what remarkable contribution he had given for the development of online ICT. He is not just an idol person. He is the inspiration of every ICT lovers and decided to do and die for the ICT development. He went through many challenges and suffering; and brings ICT journalism to this state. Even now he is working for the Cyber Sanchar Magazine, ICT News Weekly, ICT Journalist Development Forum, Magazine of ICTONLINEKHABAR.COM and the conversion of a decade long ICT journalism into online daily ICT journalism. In summary, the contribution what he has given for the ICT promotion is very hard to describe in words? So let’s know about him.
Among thousands of stars, just a moon is sufficient to enlighten the whole world. Likewise his contribution is big enough for the sequential development of ICT journalism. It does not mean that there are no any other people who worked for the development of ICT. Obviously there are many people and their contribution’s had brought ICT journalism to this state. But his contribution and efforts are more likely to be praised than the others.
Bharat Raj Upreti was born in Nuwakot at Thanapati on Baisakh-5, 2040 BS. From his childhood he is simple, kind and innovative to learn new things. As morning shows the day, he loves to work hard and show interest on new technology that comes in the market. This behavior has become the turning point of his life towards the ICT. He got arranged marriage on jestha-4, 2070 BS with Sabitri Basnet. She is also caring and supportive in nature. Currently he is living with his wife nearby Manamaiju of Kathmandu, Nepal.
Journalism is one of the purest and respected jobs. Although structures of journalism are different according to language, structure, style and society but its core concept or philosophy still remains the same. Journalism is a medium of transferring the information about the religion, language, sex and culture independently. In other words, it is also the act of collecting, accessing, creating and presenting the news and information. History reveals that the more democratic a society, the more news and information it tends to have. So people need to be democratic. Those people who advocate truly about the religion, language, sex and culture is called journalist.
In the history of every age and pages, Nepali journalism had become histories. Similarly professions of journalism need to be moral, respected and democratic. But due to lack of professionalism trend in journalism now the philosophy of this profession is diverted. Even the government has no clear mission and vision for the professionalism of this sector. Although it is the fourth organ of the Nation, many investors, coordinators and journalist could not able to make their career due to moral crisis, clear vision and plan from the Government. Similarly due to the mentality of investing today and expecting tomorrow, the field of ICT and ICT media are unable to produce a unite voice. So it’s time we all need to work out for its enhancement.
Due to lack of maintaining the importance of the field of journalism, unsustainable, irregular and unhygienic competition occur within the political news only in Nepal. This directly impact to the ethics and morality of the journalism behind.
Although journalist has to devote himself for the enhancement of agriculture, tradition, culture, tourism business and locally available resources but under the vultureeye of political pressure they are bound to work for them. Most of the information about the companies, institutes, common individual and even politician are unrevealed to maintain the status of Newspaper in the market. This directly impact to whole journalism business. So every journalist had to be given freedom to write about the true fact and must be praised from the Government side itself. Then only right information will be flown among the news reader.
Describing about the current issues, difficulties and problem faced by the journalist, we have a decade long experienced person in ICT, Bharat Raj Upreti from ICT Journalist Development Forum. And he said this is irony of fate in Nepal that we are unable to establish the journalist profession as a professional. So per day every journalist had to go in the phase of do and die on this profession. He further added that most of the ICT resources need to be mercantile within the market but it is the irony of fate that many journalist, coordinator and instructor having well-knowledge about ICT, not intended to go along with the ICT technology so this situation was created. They even ready to invest thousands of rupees on big media, but step back when time came to donate a single rupee for the development of ICT and its institute. Because of these tendencies, such drastic situation was created in the field of ICT.
For the development of any field, information about that field needs to be passed among individuals through social media and newspaper. For that social media and journalist play vital role for their development. Government need to apply special planning for the development of ICT in Nepal. Besides it seniors’ journalist and Business man must give proper guidance, support and suitable space to young one who really interested to establish their career in the field of ICT. Furthermore shareholder must come up with open-heart and mind to promote ICT Media and Journalism.
Not only by conducting seminars, event, conference, giving speech about ICT and innovation of new technology is sufficient for the development of ICT. Besides social Medias like facebook, twitters etc are to be utilized giving opportunities to young generation. Then only imagination of future of ICT is possible.
Bharat Raj Upreti said that lack of government support and not sustainability of ICT Media are the main challenge of this problem. Similarly due to political influence many investors have fear of whether their investment will go in vein or not. So effective planning is very essential on today’s date for its upliftment.
Around 2063 he worked in Cyber Sanchar Weekly Magazine as a market representative and just within 2 months of hard labor, he became a reporter. Finally after 6 months, he got a chance to become Assistant Editor. Bharat Raj Upreti believed that if you had heartily strong determination and devotion towards any work then every unthought-of work can be achieved. Around 2063 he had completed his academic qualification up to bachelor level in management. Similarly he had 5 years of working-experience on social service, works as Health Education teacher and had basic computer knowledge. But in journalism, he had just experience of 3 months training. He is neither expert on academic nor on journal but he had strong vision on how to boost up the online journalism and launch it into as a professional job.
After completing his school level certification (SLC) in first division, he came to Kathmandu in 2056 for higher education. But after 2 months of his arrival, he had to search for a job due to family economic problem. Just around a 3 month of his college, he got an opportunity of job in Lalitpur nearby Pulchowk. At that time he had to leave the college by 8 and go for a job in Patan Dhoka from Naxal in a bus. Sometimes he even had a critical situation to walk on foot due to the shortage of money. In 2058 he had to work with an amount of just one thousands per month. That amount was very less to spend even for bus rent and fooding, that’s why he left the job after 3 months of working. Then after he showed his interest towards social works and started doing but here he had to spend money by himself for them so he became fully unsatisfied with the city life. During that time he got an opportunity to make public relation but that was not enough for spending life. So he started searching for a job but didn’t get anywhere. Then after he returned to his homeland and started working on his friend’s Medical institute as a manager. Earning from that job was just enough to fulfill his basic needs so he left it. Then after he started working with friend of his aunties son’s as a volunteer but the situation still remained the same.
After spending 2 years in social institute, the coordinator from the medical institute had got a golden DV lottery around 2060/2061. Then he started working as a coordinator and manager with the collaboration of his aunties’ son. And he registered the same institute as educational counseling centre with the thinking of establishing Nursing College and he added 5 coordinators. His aim remains no more when his coordinators friend started asking twice amount within a year of their investment. Then he left that institute. He told that he again started working in Social institute with the same strategy of converting institute into Educational counseling Centre and with the same vision of establishing Nursing College. During this time he spent half of his time to social institute and rest of his time for counseling and training.
After some months he started working with one of his same institute’s friend named aahev in pharmacy at koteshwor and continues up to a year. Finally due to misunderstanding on converting pharmacy shop into Medical institute, he had to leave that as well.
Nearly around 2063, he got a golden opportunity to meet with the chief of united social development Nepal, Deepak Karki. He had an experience of two years in social institute. He requested him to work on ICT newspaper publication as a writer and a researcher. Then finally he showed his interest. Then again Karki said that the news must be about Information Technology. Then he started working on the front desk of same newspaper publication. When editor, Laxman bajgain blamed him that he had just worked for the market promotion, then he showed his interest towards working in front of the coordinator. Finally he got an opportunity to meet with him after two to four days follow up. During this meeting, publisher-Bhola Dahal told him that ICT is the first online newspapers in Nepal so he had to work as a editor concern. To gain trust of him, he had completed a week long job of market promotion within just two days. Finally the coordinator became very much pleased and told publisher to shift him as a manager for handling the market.
Then after he showed his confident and interest to almost every work of that newspapers. Then he worked for collecting news, sharing ideas, editing news and managing the news with a demanded amount of 5 thousands. Then the Publisher told him that now the rating of this newspaper is not so good so they could only give him just 2 thousands for travelling and after 6 months they could think of his demanded salary. Furthermore he added that they had planned to make this newspaper as one of the best and number 1 newspaper in Nepal so collaboration of all was needed. Finally he showed his interest. Then after he started working as managing the news along promoting the newspaper brand in the market, collecting the latest updates news of IT sectors and records voice of ICT fame. He had belief that he could make money from the market himself so he worked for that.
For many months, more than 6 hours a day he walked on foot and searched for the future of cyber newspaper in the market. Finally he led ICT to the topmost level solving lots of challenges on the market and he could even get his amount from the market.
During that time he got an opportunity to meet with many ICT fames, organization and government body. When he said he was from cyber newspaper most of the people get pleased and showed interest on knowing about it. That time he really feels pleased to be the part of it. They hoped him that they would help him for the publication but when time comes they forgot all the things what they had spoken. Once he told them to be a member of ICT within just RS.500 for a year, they told him that they worked from their office and next time they would try. So he becomes fed up with such attitude and felt bad when returned to office’s front desk from market.
There are also lots of people who really helped him to promote online newspaper. Among them director veshraj paudel is one of them who had provided him a room and internet facilities for one and a half year. At that time, Chief Dinesh Sharma from Nepal Telecom Authority, Dr. Subarna shakya from National Information Technology Centre, Controller Rajanraj Pant from pramadikaran, Sunni joshi from micro land computer, chief Pawan shakya from ISPAN, Managing director Binaya Bohara from Vianet communication, Director Bikyandra Timilsana from Broad link had provided appreciable support to this ICT magazine. Likewise from publication team editor- Laxman bajgain and Pramod Bhattarai of same Newspaper Publication Team, sub editor- Deepak Karki and Sikshya Thapa, Desktop Typing and Setting Designing- Shova Devkota, Reporter- kripa Devkota and Press- Rohit Dahal had provided valuable support and helped for the publication of Cyber Communication. They even worked up to late night (around 2am) and slept in office table during that time. Sarin Shrestha had also given support for the Cyber Communication logo design and color page setting of the RajDhani Katar Publication.
Although lots of challenges and turn over occur in life, finally he became able to establish himself as one of the idol in the history of ICT publication. Most of his friends along with senior editor left the office due to limited salary. So, all the responsibilities come in front of his head. He took all the challenges as an opportunity to learn and handle the situation. Finally he became able to tackle the situation. Due to government policies and efforts from the private sectors he became able to withstand the ICT publication two times from about to the end state. This is the most remarkable role played by him. Finally, under the concern of coordinator and editor – Er. Mahesh Pandey from Space Tech, the ICT publication had turned from weekly post to monthly post. Due to same limited salary, hard efforts and not respecting experience nature, most of his friends along with himself got separated from Cyber Communication and started working in a team of weekly published ICT news under his own investment. Spending about one and a half year, no improvement and positive response comes from the market and government side. However they got an opportunity to expand its branding from Kathmandu CAN INFOTECH to Dharan CAN INFOTECH. But still that time they got rarely a support of just Rs1500 from CAN. At that time, most of the IT stakeholder praised to them but need not support when real time of investment came. They just move away.
He told that although lots of challenges and difficulties come in front of life not afraid of it, always try to avoid it and learn from mistakes. He realized himself that because of his ego he could not able to turn ICT Publication into professional Business. So he requested all of us not left work for tomorrow, just do it? Present is your time, if lost only regret comes. He still remember how trouble he feel during ICT Publication. He remembered that humor nature of designer-Laxman Chaudhari and chief of Macro Tech Solution- Tilak Bikram Bhandari had given admirable contribution for ICT publication. Their supports are the turning point of ICT publication, he told.
Not only this, Bharat Raj Upreti had given his unforgettable contribution for the establishment of ICT Journalist Development forum in 2067 as well. From that time all the government ICT policies, counseling and supporting, flowing of ICT information to individual level, promotion and upliftment of ICT and print online become possible. It is one of the most remarkable contributions done by him for ICT.
While working in cyber communication he had vision of converting it into regional ICT. Due to lack of support from government and private side, he had converted weekly ICT post into online ICT news in 2009. Because of hacking to this site, all the investment of him around Rs.25 thousands goes in vein in 2010. But not getting renews domain registration code in 2011; he again converted online ICT news into ICT Portal. Because of his talent and experienced on computer, he started working as part time during internet access around 2011.
Now he is interested on converting Cyber Communication Newspaper, weekly published ICT News, and ICT journalist Development forum, ICT online news web newspaper along with the help of social media into online ICT for the establishment of professional and organized business. He had also dream of empowering young generation into ICT Digital and leading all the concepts of social news media and culture tourism into online ICT.
Currently he is devoting himself on transferring Nagarik post, Motherland, Profile Life, NRN profile, ICT news, living Nepal into social media concept for online daily.
Information Technology is one of the Main ICT scenarios while Social Media is a medium of ICT area development. The core part of social media is web technology. Due to rapid development on online and social media, lots of opportunities rise up in the field of ICT for the development of education, social, tourism business and individual life. Now it is impossible to imagine the development of any business without the help of IT, Web and Social Media. Now all the journalist need to learn the latest online technologies for the promotion of his/her business.
So, he requested all the ICT lovers to work up together for the rapid development of ICT then only imagination of modern Nepal will be possible.

The computer has been the basic need of our life. Sometimes, we feel like there is no life without a computer. Whatever we do, we mostly go through the network and in school days also we are taught computer studies. And the very first thing we are taught is Turning on the computer.
And accordingly, the very first tasks which are given to us by our teachers in computer is turning it on and turning it off when we were too young, but sometimes we get the need of shutting down the Windows after a particular time in case of an emergency or due to some other reason, but couldn’t find a way to shut down our computer.
In this article, we’ve described a step-by-step process to schedule a shutdown command for Windows OS. This method has been tested on Windows 10 & Windows 7. Hopefully, it’ll work on other versions as well.
It is recommended to read all the steps carefully before implementing them in your personal computer so that no mistakes could occur.
Here are the steps:
Go to your Desktop.
Right-click -> New -> Shortcut. A new window will open, asking the location for the shortcut.
Now, you need to recall your primary math concepts.
We have,
1 minute = 60 seconds
1 hour = 60 minutes*60 = 3600 seconds
After you’ve successfully recalled the conversion of minutes to seconds. Type, shutdown –st 60 in the text field below ‘Type the location of this item.’
The number 60 which is written in the above command stands for seconds, so type the name of seconds after which you want to schedule a shutdown. For example, we tested it to shut down after 1 minute (60), and it worked successfully.
Click next, when you are done with typing the command.
In the next step, give the name Shutdown.exe to one of the files. Well, you can name it whatever you want to, but don’t forget to add ‘.exe.’ at the end of that file name.
Then click Finish and you are done.
Now, just double-click the Shutdown.exe file which you created on your desktop earlier whenever you need to schedule a shutdown after a minute gap.
This is a one-time process, and you don’t need to repeat it. Just double-click ‘Shutdown.exe’ and leave the rest to your Windows PC.
If you think that you the need to change the time limit, then delete the existing file ‘Shutdown.exe’ and create a new one with a different time limit with the same steps that are mentioned above. You can also keep the current data as well, choose another name for the next record you create with another time limit that you have saved.
And it will solely be your responsibility if anything goes wrong with your PC because it works very correctly on our computer. So, please read all the mentioned steps carefully and do it correctly. NO offense.

Experienced virtual reality on your smartphones with Cardboard. To fully enjoy this app you’ll need a Cardboard review.
Each year Google has been giving its developers some gifts when they arrive at the Google I/O.
Sometimes its a tablet, and sometimes it’s a laptop. It’s fascinating how Google treats their developers during the most awaited period. The gifts google give to their developers are mostly very fancy, but this year it was not much expected.
Google I/O is something that developers are waiting for a long time in the years. However, this year has been a little more different than the previous. This year developers were given a piece of cardboard. They did provide others stuffs as well, but the question remains what the carton was about.
The questions developers and others had in mind were that why would google who were organizing such big events and were providing fancy stuff as the gifts had given them a cheap looking cardboard. Who would have known the carton to be an innovation towards the virtual reality that Google had been working on? However, the cardboard is not only the thing that will help to make it a virtual reality device.
It’s obvious that a phone is required and paired with the cardboard to make it a complete virtual reality gadget. When the carton is paired with the android phones, the cardboard turns into a cheap, on the fly virtual reality headset. When it was announced that the developers were getting cardboard during the event, the developers were surprised either to be happy or not.
However, they wouldn’t have thought that the cardboard will end up being really cool. Virtual reality is an innovation in technology, and it’s just been sometime that people have started knowing about it.
The cardboard isn’t itself responsible for virtual reality. However, it plays a significant role as a headset so that virtual reality can be viewed on our phone.
The thing is it uses a lens, and an app is needed which is available in the google play named as google cardboard which comes together helping to create a virtual reality when viewed by the one using the headset. The process of making the headset is all over the internet. All you need is an android mobile phone will a big screen, cardboard, and a lens.
And with the help of proper instruction even you can make a virtual reality headset. Doesn’t it sound cool? You will be given some guidance by Google to cut and maintain the cardboard so that it can be used as a headset. A place for the phone and the lens is provided. The glass is kept between the viewer’s eyes and the phone thus helping the users to see through the phone and experience the virtual reality.
Google has been working on making games and applications for virtual reality. However, it’s hard to get enough of just a roller coaster ride with the help of google cardboard. Its quite addictive as well and the coolness of the innovation even after being so cheap cannot be compared.
Google prides itself on the efficiency and ease of use of its Adwords program for your per click. Another distinct advantage is the online coverage it offers.
By placing your ad on Google Adwords and its partners you can potentially reach over 80% of the Internet.

Link Building refers to earning links to a website. It is one of the essential components of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Natural links to a website mostly links that tend to trustworthy sites will increase help increase the rank of your website on Google and other search engines.
So, how can you start building these links to your website?
You should try to build links slowly instead of adding a hundred in one sitting. This sudden spike of inbound links could cause your problems. It would look unnatural, as connections are generally not achieved this fast. Be patient with new websites as they will need time to mature before google ranks them at their full potential.
Remember, unnatural and untrustworthy links will not help your site in the long run. It is the high quality and natural links to/from your website that will be rewarded.
Google Sandbox is a filter which allegedly prevents new website from appearing on top search results. There are many ways you can deal with the Google Sandbox and its effects, including:
Use an Existing, first domain name instead of a new one.
Build links slowly over time. Optimize your website gradually.
In the early days, concentrate on other search sites.
Utilize pay per click (PPC) for your initial placement.
The Google sandbox effect is not a well-known algorithm by Google; it is just a phrase to describe the effect often seen with new websites that have only recently been found by Google. Do not build links too quickly with a new site as it will look unnatural to Google results.
From computer to MOMO until battery to Hen’s seed.
In this issue of ICT Frame portal, the biography of Suresh Lohani, who was engaged since 20 years in the ICT sector, and former member and director of IT sector’s more privileged Company named as Megatech Group is presented. In 1995, buying computers from a wholesaler and willing to sell them to Biratnagar, Megatech was established, and now it has been the most prosperous country in the IT sector. For providing this success to the company, Suresh had given significant contribution being the able businessman. About his struggle to victory, Author of ICT Frame has written a story on his success:
Suresh Lohani and Megatech
As to how Suresh’s introduction is given by Megatech, Suresh has also complimented Megatech in equal. While starting Megatech, he was only 21 years. This is a thing of 2053BS. I had recently finished I.Com. My bother Sailesh Lohani gave a proposal of opening a company in Biratnagar; on telling the opening story of that company, he says, “They had more courage than money for opening a company. With another friend Sujan Thapa and we two brother’s discussion, they had the idea of bringing a computer from Kathmandu Wholesalers and selling them to nearby places of Biratnagar, with this only Megatech Company was established. Basu Joshi also joined us in the team.
Work Experience: Co-Director and CEO, Megatech Group
Foreign Country Visit: India, Singapore, Myanmar, Thailand, Dubai, Italy, Germany, and France.
At that time, though it was just a small material of IT, the people from Biratnagar were forced to come here in Kathmandu to buy those materials. Some used to take the elements from the airplane also. But, if the computer or the IT accessories are torn out, then there used to be no service center for that. Thereby, the network which used to run on windows 3.1, from that computer the computer training was recently given at that time. Suresh, Sailesh, and Sujan, who used to understand these things, in 1995, they started the business for complete buying of the materials and providing service for the first time. “At that time, computer, photocopy machine, printer, and other materials were bought from wholesalers of Kathmandu and used to deliver in Biratnagar,” said Suresh. “This technology wasn’t much increased.” We used to go to the village by village and tell people about why they need to buy a computer and what’s the benefit of buying them in nearby shops and also organize the program on this.”
The product which was supplied by Megatech started having more demands, after that, this company tie up with India’s that time’s biggest company HL, and started exporting the IT products named as HL Mega Brand. “HL had given the permission to export the materials to Sikkim and Bhutan as well. But, for us Nepali market was more reliable so, we didn’t get in it, he said.
In Biratnagar, Mega Tech is the first company who provides product and service at the same time, staying in Biratnagar and doing corporate supply was being difficult. Now, not only increase the amount in the same place, they decided to move throughout the country, so they opened an office in Kathmandu. This thing is from 2005. Mega tech, after Biratnagar, they took the responsibility of western digital and HL distribution. After coming to Kathmandu, Mega tech’s business model was changed. “We started selling more products. We made the way of marketing, throughout the country. We were more powerful than comparison to other companies. Moreover, we focused on corporate supply,” said Suresh.
Today Mega tech not only does computer supply but also does business of agriculture, co-operation, momo and hen’s grain. Lenovo, New Metric, Matrix Speculum, Magna CCTV, siren power’s pendrive and hard drive, generator and other products were sold by Mega tech , now they started own company named as Asian Batteries through which batteries made in our own country is produced.
From computer to momo until battery to hen’s grain
Today Mega tech not only does computer supply but also does business of agriculture, co-operation, momo and hen’s grain. Lenovo, New Metric, Matrix Speculum, Magna CCTV, siren power’s pendrive and hard drive, generator and other products were sold by Mega tech , now they started own company named as Asian Batteries through which batteries made in our own country is produced.
“We faced many difficulties in customer support while selling foreign battery in Nepal. This problem was faced by customer, dealer and we ourselves, that’s why Megatech started producing their own battery in full phase.”
Like this, one company is working in other various sectors and the reason behind this is Suresh and his teams’ willingness and good management. “We used to carry computers from Biratnagar and deliver it in Kakadvitta at night. Today we don’t have to work like that. In past, starting this company with only three of us lead to deliver the product by ourselves only. Today Megatech has provided job to 700 hundred people directly and 1500 people indirectly. I have taken this as a contribution towards the society,” he said.
Honest Business made Megatech successful
In the market network, service and presence’s calculation, today Megatech lies in Nepal’s one of top IT company. To bring the company to this state, Suresh and his teams’ honest businessman ship was important. “If they were not honest in business and if had started breaking the trust of people, then we wouldn’t have been this successful. But we didn’t come for only one-day business, we came for providing continuous satisfaction to our customer, and my team and I have shedded lots of sweat,” he said. “In the history of 20 years of Megatech, the main thing that satisfies me is that there is still not even a single customer who said Megatech had cheated us.”
I wish to remain creative always
The person who is satisfied with his life, he said that he has positive thoughts for his future. He says, “I ought to remain creative always. This is my wife’s recipe. A person needs to be honest, patience and creative to become successful, he said. The person who loves the taste of his work can only get success. When we asked him about his weakness, then he said, “His main weakness is the time management. There is always less time for all kinds of work. I keep on doing the work, until and unless I get success in that. In between, other opportunities keep on going waste.”
Suresh’s planning for future
Suresh who has gone through springs of 20 years for Megatech wants to go through all other remaining spring for Megatech to make it more successful. He wants horizontal growth for Megatech. “Megatech is not only a distributor but also working as producer throughout the country,” he said. In recent, in Megatech’s brand Asian Battery is not the only thing, but also it produces grain for cows and hens, and the company’s name is Asian Feed. Suresh is on the process for producing hen’s child (chicken) as soon as possible. In Megatech’s name, a resort in Dakshinkali is started. Along with that, there is a company named Megatech Invest in Biratnagar, and they are also a promoter of Srijana Finance of Biratnagar. Like this, he has made a provision of helping the people from over the country through his company.
From two to four MB of Hard Disk and Purple XT monitor, it costs more than 80 thousand. Nepal’s capital, there were only two-four institutes and shops of computer, which teaches computer studies and sells computer as well. That time is not very old, about 20 years ago, in Nepal there came a trend of learn the computer. Meanwhile, C.N. (Chetnath) Upadhyaya who put his hand in computer business sector is still updated with the speed of technology.
The famous IT Personality Steve Jobs has said, ‘A person who has new kind of vision and ability to work differentiate between leadership. Because of that different and good work he has established a strong identity in the IT Sector. Without formal education also, work in this area is possible, for this sentence C.N. Upadhyaya has become an example.C.N. Upadhyaya who was born in a remote settlement of mountain district on October 18, 1959, received primary education in Assam. Bachelor in Geography graduated Upadhyaya, get in, in the information technology sector by seeing and doing much from it. He remembers, “Whatever education he had studied, he is happy with the world is going update on the technology sector
Assam’s education and work experience of Nepal has taught Upadhyaya lots of things in life. In year 038, after returning to Nepal, he got an opportunity to work in the Central Bureau Department. To manage Census data and to organize in the same year for the first time in Nepal called ICL 1401 named main computer frame was brought. Due to the ICL computer which was supported by the government of UK has started ‘National Computer Center ‘ from which for the first time Upadhayaya took the first step towards the network. Then Upadhayaya who has experienced in supporting press, Recast, Morang Auto works got a permanent job in Nepal Stock Agency. Till 21 years Upadhyaya working in the Stock Exchange, he contributed for the computerized system there.
With working days, he also opened a Computer Institute and started IT business. At that time, 20 years ago and now, there is a difference between sky and land. At that time, he has experience of Thailand ordering 1 million 80 thousand second-hand. During that time, Nepal had also got a wave of learning the computer. Institute had excess work. He says, “In those days Nepal was before India in using computers. From India, many traders came to Nepal to buy the assembled computer parts. “In 1981 the person like Muni Bahadur had already manufactured micro-computer. Recalling that thing Upadhyaya says, “in this time interval, India has left us behind, we’re embroiled somewhere here.’ When such a situation arises, related company and government failed to reach its importance, said Upadhyaya.
In those days, the XT computer was considered a perfect one and the latest one. People used to advertise as the institute where learning is done through the XT computer. C.N. Upadhayaya has got the experience of making as well as selling 40 XT computers. In Nepal computer business had got increasing and encouraging because of this only for the people who were and wanted to engage in IT sector, there came an idea of establishing Computer Association of Nepal (CAN), he said. In the initiation of me and my colleagues Deepak Thapa, on 2nd May 1992 CAN was found. Reflecting that day CAN is celebrating that day as ICT Day. Thinking that the institution is required to register formally, after whole one year’s hard work on 1994 Sanjib Rajbhandari as President and C.N. Upadhyaya as Treasurer and other nine committee members, it was finally made.
The CAN info which was established in 1995 in Balwatar Hotel has reached 18 editions. Upadhyaya who started the concept of CAN InfoTech has brought the idea of combining 13 InfoTech. The starter of IT Expo Upadhyaya has been combing the ICT Info Trade for the last five years. Upadhyaya left that organization in 2007 after working for a very long time. After failing to organize economic crisis, Sagardev Lakhe Ram Sharan Pandey, Shisir Upadhyaya, Bheshraj Poudel, Roshan Bhandari including the entire group started ICT Association of Nepal. ICT Association has already held five ICT Expo Branding. IN such Expo’s coordinator C.N. Upadhyaya name has always been there. Now he is the Treasurer of ICT Associations and president of Zoom Event Management.
Upadhyaya who has organized dozens of successful IT Expo, whenever we ask him our question which expo is the most successful one, he remembered and said – 2003 CAN InfoTech. In those days, the number of people who came to visit exhibition was very high because of which army had to surround the control. The then Crown Prince Dipendra Shah inaugurated the expo which became exciting, excellent and many experiences were gained by him. When he was there in the ICT Association of Nepal, with his leadership branding Expo was started. The association, now, not only for Businessman but also provides a computer in remote areas, and some foreign university students are being given a scholarship.
For organizing Expo, Kathmandu didn’t have right and open place it had become a problem, he said. This thing has also been told by CAN and ICT Association. “We are prepared to make the building, if you are ready to give us land,” saying this also government didn’t show any interest in this. Of course, life is full of complaints and complaint. Life becomes the way, where we learned to live as. Having the thought of Simple living and high thinking, Upadhyaya has not experienced many sorrows in life. “I never do the work which gives tension and sorrow to another person, that’s why I can always be happy,” said Upadhyaya. It’s not enough if the private sector gives dedication to something; the government’s help is inevitable. The government has never been able to look at the best in the ICT sector, he said. Many governance systems changed, but the attitude of seeing ICT sector has not changed yet.
Upadhyaya who is seen energetic and cheerful says, if you work in the field according to your skills and interest, then success doesn’t need to wait for a long time. I work for self-satisfaction. Either Young or older I can be comfortable with any age group, that why I get success in the work, I do. The person with two sons, a daughter, and a wife with a happy family is always seen as energetic and cheerful. Though he couldn’t get a formal education, he made his both sons study mobile and network and electronics engineering. In 53 years of age also Upadhyaya doing tremendous work has not decreased. Living in Small and happy family, for his name and honor is more valuable than money. He says, ‘Since my childhood, I have been living in a foreign country, but that country was never best for me. Working and staying in your own country gives pleasure. I like millet of my own country. Foreign money is found, but respect is not. Money is never enough for people. “
Upadhyaya who spent a long time in ICT sector has received more than half a dozen award prize. Contributing his best in ICT, in 2001, he was awarded by CAN. Similarly, from Best Management CAN InfoTech he was awarded in 2005. Similarly, giving 3 decades contribution to ICT in 2010, he was awarded the Special Award. Not going in the back of award and giving continuous contribution for three decades in the ICT sector, presenting Upadhyaya in Living with ICT in Bhadra month as ICT profile we felt proud.
“In Nepal on 1970’s decade, the computer was made, knowing this thing you may wonder how. In Computer Hardware of building, world-famous company, IBM made computer with microchips in 1989. However, before two years ago in Nepal, such computer was already made. The manufacturer of that computer Mr. Shakya is showing that computer today also to, too many people.
However, in those days Apple and IBM were struggling for manufacturing of computer, but now they are famous all around the world today, as well as they are enriched with property worth billions. ”
Though, has stepped on the age of 70 years, Computer Scientist Muni Bahadur Shakya is enthusiastic like 25-year-old youth. During the special time he gave us for interview, he was in home busy in Auto Repairing. In his young age, he used to sleep only for three hours and rest of the time he used to spend in study and manufacturing the parts of the computer and till today he sleeps for 6 hours only. The person who was born in 1942 in a common community of Patan is right now the first scientist to invent computer in Nepal. However, Shakya’s talent and contribution couldn’t be able to identify by his own country.
In Nepal on 1970’s decade, the computer was made, knowing this thing you may wonder how.
Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, just started struggling in world of computer hardware and software then. Today, they have become the world’s wealthiest person and billions of heart pounds for them. However, Muni Bahadur is not being able to introduce himself to his own country.
Through, the state is not able to appreciate the skills of Shakya; he never gave up. For the information technology sector, he is Nepal’s history and a strong southpaw. Though the government was not able to appreciate his talents, he never felt criticized. It’s not that, world media didn’t inform about his computer manufacturing and contribution. He says, ‘I made a computer in 1979, knowing that Japan, China, and other countries’ media featured me and broadcasted the news.” Taking his issue, Nepal and much other foreign press have made a half dozen documentary as well.
In 1980, when the world has just started developing computers, Nepal had already got the person who can manufacture computer. For building a computer and its parts, Shakya established a company named Pioneer Hi-Tech in 1985. The computer parts and materials that the company produced has made his two houses full. He said showing his home, ‘Look, these house has become a factory, but still, the govt has not done any support for its promotion.” The computers that he developed in those days was worth millions of rupees had been confined to a room as a museum piece. However, the current generation is limited to a portable computer, tablet, and smartphone. Computer parts which he manufactured costs billions of rupees, which was not even on sale in all kinds of shops. Not only that but he has made more than a dozen computer hardware and software products.
“In 1980, when world has just started developing computers, Nepal had already got the person who can manufacture computer. For building computer and its parts, Shakya established a company named Pioneer Hi-Tech in 1985. The computer parts and materials that company manufactured, has made his 2 houses full.”
Radio Nepal took total one hour interview and broadcast about his manufacturing of computers. At that time, listening to his interview, Prime Ministers used to call him and praise him for his wonderful work and asked him to display that computer. In front of Prime Minister, specific peoples and the professors of Tribhuwan University, he displayed how a computer can easily add the numbers in a very short time period. Seeing that, everyone were amazed, but still they didn’t show any interest to support and expand his work.
In those days, saying the computer will be developed in Nepal would be like a story, he told himself.
He has manufactured more than a dozen hardware and software products. He also developed software with which work done in one computer, can be seen by more than 200 machines. Like that, he also developed a network which operates on Devanagari Script. The interesting technologies that Shakya developed were Robert, security equipment, and many other computer devices. A brain of the computer, Buffalo computer, supercomputer, Nepali Robots, and green computer are some of the first samples he developed in the field of technology. Meanwhile, he developed a ‘Green Computer’ which consumes less power. Through this computer places including Kalikot and other districts, Telemedicine was being conducted.
In 1986, Shakya introduced an amazing system through which all the spoken things can be written on the computer. Nowadays this trend is prevalent, but now in today’s mobile computing world, Nepali people can find it amusing. Experiencing this system, he said, “When he used to say water, the tank used to throw the litters out of the water.” Perhaps, In Nepal’s education sector there used to be no teaching about micro-computers. However, the system which he made using micro-controllers worked with racism. Selling many of these products in the market, he couldn’t earn much money.
“He also developed a software with which a work done in one computer, can be seen by more than 200 computers. Like that, he also developed a computer which works on Devanagari Script. The interesting technologies that Shakya developed were Robert, security equipment, and many other computer devices. A brain of the computer, Buffalo computer, supercomputer, Nepali Robots and green computer are some of excellent samples he developed in the field of technology.”
At that times, big companies and government organization and government organizations with the thought that computers cannot do anything, didn’t use to buy computer system. However, Shakya made the computer system which were more efficient and cheap than the computers brought from abroad. Meanwhile, he has experience of selling computer worth 85 thousand rupees to the Ministry of Finance in 1 986. Though Nepali’s disagrees, many foreign organizations and individuals who have bought his products. One of the organization linked with UN has purchased five hundred computer with Shakya.
For reaching to this mode of life, Shakya has worked and studied very hard. Because of his hard work and research Shakya has got this successful. As a saying -a plant with smooth-leaf can grow, since a very early age, Shakya was very much interested in studies. In 1965, Tejila Shakya graduated in Radio Electronics course from India. Likewise, he did C. Engineering from Britain in 1972. After the engineering course from India when he came back to Nepal, from 1969 to the other five years, he has worked as a chief technician in Radio Nepal. In the term of doing the job in 1975 BS Shakya has worked in National News Agency (RSS) for a few years. The situation couldn’t stop him from doing his work. He spent a year in France to study in 1978. While staying in France and the United States, he has praised their new technology developments. As a result, returning in his land Nepal, using the microchips Shakya manufactured computer and surprised many people.
“In last Baisakh 20, on the occasion of ICT day, Computer Association of Nepal honored Shakya with “ICT Business Excellence Award 2012′. It is an honor from the president with a special interest, this moment was a great pleasure for him. His office is filled with certificates. Seeing more than two dozen honor certificates my heart leaped with joy. “
He also has a bitter experience of getting criticized by the leaders of Nepal saying, Can a computer be manufactured in Nepal? Once when Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat, he asked for 5% discount for making computer labs and importing equipment from abroad, but he didn’t showed any interest in it. Shakya takes this event, still fresh. Remembering then finance minister’s quotes Shakya shares his experience. “If this provision is provided then all Nepali will start working in the computer sector then were all how remittances will come from abroad, so don’t ask for such nonsense demand,” this way Shakya got an answer. Instead of saying, in what capacity we can build technology to pull the world economy, here government is trying to discourage him. May be because of this only, Shakya has got no interest in politics.
He gets irritated of current political situation. In meeting with Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, he has showed rays of hope to Shakya. Dr. PM during the meeting. Bhattarai is very helpful and the possibility that the Shakya. If the government gave the permission then, the wasted park of Banepa can be made IT factory, said Shakya.
The Government couldn’t even send the Jeewan Jal costing only 10 rupees in Karnali region, hundreds of people lost their lives prematurely, remembering this tragedy only Shakya manufactured Green Computer plans to launch telemedicine. With this Plan, in Kalikot, and some districts he was able to save thousands of lives, his heart fills with jot hearts filled with joy remembering this. Showing Green computer and telemedicine room he said ‘This is my next ambitious plan. “This movement of saving immediate death of people in the rural zone of Nepal, his mind gets relieved. If talking about satisfaction then a human should never get satisfied. Still having thoughts of doing more new and good work Shakya has never got satisfied. However, he has often become sad and sometimes pleased. Life is full of suffering and happiness, all things combine to borrow the experience, and he became stronger.
“After the engineering course from India when he came back to Nepal, from 1969 to other five years he has worked as a chief technician in Radio Nepal. In the term of doing job in 1975 BS Shakya has worked in National News Agency (RSS) for a few years. The job couldn’t stop him from doing his work.”
“When someone criticizes the work done by somebody at that time Shakya gets deeply hurt. Many times, the leader of Nepal and others took his production lightly. But Shakya never stopped working hard. Hard work has given many proclamations to him. The honor given by media is much greater, says Shakya. Shakya who developed Devanagari script got a special honor from RONASH. Similarly, two years ago the ICT Association of Nepal was also honored him. In the last Baisakh 20, on the occasion of ICT day, Computer Association of Nepal honored Shakya with “ICT Business Excellence Award 2012′. It is an honor from a president with particular interest; this moment was a great pleasure for him. His office is filled with certificates. They see more than 2 dozen honor certificates my heart leaped with joy.
In life, he has visited America more than twenty times. Bringing the things that he learned in a foreign country to Nepal, and he has shown a possibility in the world of computers at the time. The husband of 2 wives & father of three sons & daughters. He has not got enough of youth age.
Though he didn’t wanted to tell his age, he mentioned that he was born on 2nd September. He feels that, he is a proud father whose two sons are working in the reputed IT companies of America. He has got many other dreams to fulfil. The person, who developed computer in Nepal, Mr. Shakya feels that there is possibility of great future ahead. The person who never take back steps said that if he get the support from the government then still he can do many inventions in IT sector. Though country’s situation made him feel low, he said from heart, “Maybe, I was born before the time of Nepal.”
Journalism, IT and CAN’s successful leader Biplav Man
Member, Federation of Commerce and Industry, the former president (CAN)
‘Unexpected changes came in the IT sector; I do not know how I entered this area was, when I think about it, I get amazed.’ Without any plan, without any formal education, Biplav Man Singh experienced this sector. At the beginning of the conversation only, Biplav Man Singh remembered his past days. The thing is about 1988 when in Kathmandu with some people’s cooperation Cache Trading House named Computer Sales Company was started. Before that, there used to be desktop designing work.
At that time, In India Apple, Computer was about to give training, so there was no use of sending the person who works on the desktop. One man who can speak good English was in search, and his friends choose Biplav Man Singh for that. But, that training took place in Nepal only in which Biplav Man Singh took the lead. That was the first time he took a step towards IT.
Statistics, Economics and Law University’s study took Singh to another mode. Neither business or IT nor Journalism. Bringing three different subjects’ study in one for a career, took an exciting transition in Biplav Man Singh’s life. Though studying about other subjects, work and capability can be used as interference in the IT sector, Biplav Man Singh has become an example for this sentence. Having age of 45 enjoying spring, Biplav Man Singh’s 30 years’ experience in IT is about to be written in his ICT profile.
Singh, who was born in Kathmandu valley on 2023 BS was a very naughty-nature child. He has a fun experience of failing in class 8. His success is joint with his happy family including his wife, one son and a daughter. Having a thought that two-time meal is enough, Biplav Man Singh doesn’t have personal more massive schemes of life. Singh says that Government job is only done by lazy people. He has got an understanding that a dynamic person never does a government job. Singh who has the thought of doing something unusual was never attracted towards government job.
When he started his career in IT, there was only 10 MB hard disk in Apple Macintosh Classic. Windows was taking the beginning step, at that time a single computer used to cost around more than 1 Lakh Rupees. Until then, in 1989, there were only five dealers including Nepal Cache Trading. Before that, the pilot used to bring one or two computers from Hong Kong. Singh, who attended the training given by Apple on Computer Sales Marketing, was a journalist before he put his hand on IT Business. Perhaps only a few people might know about his journey of journalism.
“Today’s change in information technology is the revolution of overall technology, says Singh. When there was no hard drive, the floppy disk was used, but now there is a terabyte hard disk. Singh believes that all this is the revolution of technology. In information revolution only, overall technology revolution has started.”
He used to work in Daily Dairy Magazine as press manager and used to write about common lines for years. His pen didn’t stop there, though his hand was on business, he continued writing. He wrote articles for many newspapers, other than that; he also published some paper himself. Before the trade, Levitre Newspaper’s publisher, Mr. Singh has experience of becoming an editor for Gaijatra and also have published comic magazines. In 2010, he posted a newspaper named Tech Info, but later on, because of certain circumstances, he took leave from that magazine. Now also, he has published some of his articles in the newspaper.
Today’s change in Information and technology is the revolution of overall technology, according to Singh. When there was no hard drive, the floppy disk was used, but now there is terabyte hard disk. Singh believes that all this is the revolution of technology. In the information revolution only, overall technology revolution has started. Now, technological enhancement has taken place. He understands that, from the 1st computer made in 1979 to 30 years journey of technology, technology has taken another unfolding mode.
He said that because of the small markets in Nepal, it couldn’t compete with international markets. Again, this technology is not limited in any country but has an attachment to the world. Like Facebook, where, there are more than 90 crore people from the whole world in the same place.
“It’s not compulsory to go in hi-tech only; you can also go for high touch, Singh’s this thought is carrying a change in it. ‘In life, the person working in a newspaper started selling computers’ said Singh’s changed career got many contributions towards Nepal IT Sector.”
“Think globally, act locally,” in this concept also Nepali will be able to do many things, Singh is excited about this. Rather than worrying about nothing can happen in Nepal, we should think about the revolution of the advantage of technology, this is the main thing said, Singh. Including software and other areas, Nepal can do many things, but the main reason behind it is the country’s politics. The idea behind the failure of e-governance is also the useless politicians, said Singh.
In Computer Association of Nepal (CAN), Biplav Man Singh played a vital role. To take CAN InfoTech in a successful business, he played a remarkable character. From 2004 to 2008, while he was the president of CAN, he expanded CAN in other many places and also did the beginning of Soft Tech. In his office, from CAN, including C.N. Upadhyaya left CAN and formed ICT Association. When Biplav Man Singh entered the CAN, he was very excited.
In 2008, in the election of CAN, some friends encouraged him to be vice-president, and then he entered in CAN organization, said, Singh. Now, in Commerce and Industry Organization, Biplav Man Singh represents the union. The reason behind leaving CAN and go to FNCCI was to invest in the IT Environment. Some of whose works have been positive said, Singh.
To give placement for innovative ideas and to find investment environment, some plans and programs are about to launch, said Singh. In Nepal, big industrialists are not coming for investment in IT, so this situation must be corrected. Mr. Singh who has done many good deeds in other organization didn’t enter politics, why is that so? In this question, he did an enormous grin and said he is not interested in politics.
And now, he is working on adapting to youths for leadership. Nepal has got many possibilities; he is not satisfied with the custom of teenagers going abroad. He said that in Nepal, tourism, IT has got big chances but country’s youths are not being able to understand it.
It is said that life is not like what you think; Biplav Man Singh’s life also became like that. The unexpected change brought him in this area, said Singh. He said in life he has to find happiness and sadness. He became third in Gorkha Dakshin Bahu for the first time. Many organizations honored and awarded him.
The organization, CAN, where he worked also got various honors and reached a level high, for this, he played a significant role. It’s not compulsory to go in hi-tech only, you can also go for high touch, and Singh’s this thought is carrying a change in it. ‘In life, the person working in a newspaper started selling computers’ said Singh’s changed career got many contributions towards Nepal IT Sector.
In school time, learning the computer was a farthing, till class 7, he hadn’t even seen the books. Forty-five years ago, the person who was born in Bhirpakha of Myagdi and life of children of the aristocratic family in the Kathmandu Valley had got a total 180-degree difference while comparing. But, the boy who didn’t even had slippers to wear and who hadn’t yet seen the books, is today the hero of ICT Sector and now is getting a salute from thousands of people from the world.
Until class 7, Mr. Pun who was reading in Myagdi’s Nagi Village had to leave Pokhara because of not having the financial support, later on, He started working in his relatives home and also began studying after work.
After studying in class 8 in Chitwan, we saw books and also started wearing slippers. After finishing school, he began teaching in a typical school, and during SLC exam, he was in the class as a guard after that he left the job as he couldn’t tolerate scolding of the inspector. After that, his life took another turn. In 1889, he went to study Master’s in the University of Nebraska in the United States with the help of his brother. Then in 1992, he came back to adore his birthplace Nepal after getting a Master’s degree.
Mr. Pun who couldn’t stay as a job holder took a step forward to teach villagers through computer study and make them literate. Yes, he was that kind of person, who brought light in people’s future
From a scattered lifestyle. From the place of, not even having a single book, flowing the internet medium, he showed the possibility of a new way. As the rate of his excellent contribution got high, we were awarded Myagasey (considered as Nobel Prize of Asia) in 2007.
To make the reach of computer study and to provide internet facility in the mountainous district of Western Nepal was not an easy thing. However, either by creating a revolution of one dollar in America or walking through the village by the village for support, he did introduce the wireless support. As a result of all these attempts, he was awarded as well. The university in which he studied, it also awarded him with Ma.Dr. (Honorary Degree, Doctor of Humane Letters) In 2007. His wireless project is now expanded in 20 districts. According to him, till his hands, legs and last breath works, he will work in the ICT Sector.
To support objectives of ICT projects, he established a restaurant, a month ago in Thamel, Kathmandu. Mahabir Center for Nepal Connection is not built for earning profits; instead, it was found to make a connection with the people from the world and further expand the ICT operations.
When Mahabir Pun returned to his village after completing study in the United States, he started connecting all the communities which were hampered by mountains with the net of the internet. That work was not entirely comfortable. The internet companies which had a handsome amount of money wasn’t being able to reach that village, but he, with some financial help of his relatives in the United States, he did it.
To spread the light of computer education, he started the Himanchal Education Foundation. In America, the revolution of one dollar was also launched, but that revolution couldn’t make much change, he added. The village where to send an e-mail only, people had to walk for two days, Mr. Pun started flowing the internet and website facility, by selling the Chyangras, goods through online news, and with this, he tried to change the face of the village.
His this campaign started from Myagdi and expanded to other neighboring districts as well. With the help of local people and his friends from the United States, he became more courageous. Before receiving Myagasey Award neither we were recognized by people of Kathmandu nor the Medias of Nepal. After winning awards, he became so famous that he was made the person who deserves a salute from every people.
“The support of total two lakhs dollar, made his project expand in different 20 districts. He never asked for any supports, instead continued his work shedding sweats. It’s not that dozens of organizations were not searching for him in the village, but he didn’t accept else terms and conditions, other than his campaign. He added, if someone is willing to assist him without any terms and conditions then only he will accept that support.”
During internal conflicts in the country also, he didn’t stop his movement. He went through various circumstances. The biggest obstacle was money, which use to challenge his wireless project. After receiving the award, he was renowned by Kathmandu and Singhadurbar, but no one showed the hand of help.
Till now the most significant financial help he got was from Asia Pacific Telecommunications. With the amount equals to 2 lakh dollars, his project was expanded to other 20 districts. He never asked for help instead kept on shedding sweat for work. Many organizations came to help him with terms and conditions, but he refused to get assisted. Without any terms and condition, if someone wants to support him, then that person is heartily welcome.
If everyone had worked on the path shown by Mahabir Pun then growing Digital Divided Gap wouldn’t have been lacked. This work cannot be done alone in a whole country, for this every people have to work in rural areas, he said. From east to west, he established dozens of Tele-medicine Centers to save immediate deaths of people.
There are very few people who were supporting him continuously. Fifteen people are consistently volunteering Pun in this work. He added, as the government could not work on behalf of ICT development and expansion, the work has become slower. Rather than just staying still, if the government does the help they can provide, then it would have been a great thing, he thought.
“It’s not that there are no people who criticize and back-stabs him. In social state, there is a different story of his struggle for being today’s Mahabir Pun. He never listens to others’ criticisms; he keep on doing his best to expand his work.”
According to him, the political situation is not interested in his project. He added that it is impossible to do anything politically. Mahabir Pun with the thought of “Simple living, high thinking” is a straightforward person. People who meet him for the first time, will not believe that, is he the person who is renown in the whole world?
This kind of question may arise in the heart of many people. He says- At the time of eating good food and wearing good clothes, I didn’t get a chance. I have never worn any clothes purchased by myself. There is no use of wearing suits and boots like walking in villages. If I were a person to work in the office then I would have dressed better clothes, but what’s the need for that for living in a village?
Yes, because of this attitude only villagers have made Pun a respectable Mahabir. The work he did, received awards and his lifestyle has been a subject for elite classes’ people. Wearing half pant, trekking slippers, he has made the people of Singhadurbar listen to his story of expanded wireless connection, who wore coat and pant. A person without jealousy and snake without venom is of no use if without keeping this thing in mind, his life would have been limited as a teacher only.
Mr. Pun who has become an inspiration to youth said that he would continue his project till his last breath. An average person Mahabir Pun has changed society through ICT. As, a result, he has got many international to national as well as rural awards. Mahabir pun which can be visited only in the Kathmandu Model Hospital can now be visited in his restaurant in Thamel.
To get the ideas from various national and international people for expansion of ICT he has been there in Thamel. He has got many purposes, one of them is opening an innovation center for youths for work. He said that he would continue this work till his last breath. A common man has changed society with ICT medium. We salute for this contribution and wish him for this other works in the future.
